Rory Warwick

Hi, I’m Rory. I am the third Account Manager with Alex and Mike looking after our charity clients.  Together with the campaign administrators we handle all the data from donors signing up to the charity.  I joined Future Fundraising recently so am still finding my way round.

How long have you been in Fundraising?

Since the end of October last year.  I was part of a social enterprise promoting a healthy lifestyle for children.  I have also done some fundraising on the street and a number of freelance jobs in charity fundraising.

What were you doing before?

I was a fraud investigator for a major credit card company.  I worked in a beautiful building but didn’t enjoy the work or the life.  It was a completely different type of job – I enjoy fundraising much more.

What appeals to you about fundraising?

It is an opportunity to help.   This job is great because I get a chance to contribute to lots of different charities rather than working for just one.  It feels like my responsibility is to do what I can for others when I see people who have been through difficult experiences stand up and inspire others.

What’s your typical day at Future?

At the moment I am learning about the different charities we support (there is such a range).  I am also getting to grips with all the complexities of DARMS – our donor database

What has been your best ever day in fundraising?

I made £200 for Breast Cancer Care during the month of May.  A friend and I grew beards and called our campaign “The Darling Beards of May”. We thought it was extremely funny – and luckily so did other people!

What/Who inspires you?

My mum.  The happiest, most positive, friendliest person ….

What is the worst thing about fundraising?

So far I haven’t found anything bad!

What is the best piece of advice you could give someone about to start in fundraising?

My advice is to go into it for the right reasons, as this will keep you motivated and resourceful when you hit all those setbacks that are normal in any career.
